Ashby House Executive Director / Administrator

General Description of Position
Ashby House Ltd. is seeking an Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Ashby House staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The Executive Director must develop a deep knowledge of the field, programs, operations, and strategic plan. The Executive Director is the public face of Ashby House and must have the knowledge to represent Ashby House at all levels.

About Ashby House
Ashby House provides substance abuse treatment, homeless services, family shelter, life skills training, substance use disorder treatment, transitional housing and a resource exchange. 

Mission
Ashby House actively seeks candidates whose commitments and contributions will advance the Ashby House mission of empowering homeless families and individuals to improve self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, and holistic recovery. Ashby House welcomes diversity and supports inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in related field
Eight years experience with five years in a field applicable to human services
Supervisory experience
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Knowledge of non-profit management
MSW, MBA, or MPA desirable

Job Duties Include
Management and implementation of the vision and mission of Ashby House
Community outreach for the educational and financial support of Ashby House
Development and implementation of annual agency budget and strategic plan
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
Management of staff and interaction with Board of Directors

Salary Range
Salary for this position is anticipated to be between $70,000 and $80,000 commensurate with experience.

The Executive Director / Administrator must develop deep knowledge of the field, programs, operations, and the strategic plan. The Executive Director / Administrator is the public face of Ashby House and must have the knowledge to represent Ashby House at all levels.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:
  • Leadership that supports and guides the mission of Ashby House.
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Actively engage and energize Ashby House employees, volunteers, board members, committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction and ongoing operations.
  • Inform the board regularly of internal organization matters, including relevant staffing, funding and program success, governmental agency relations, and agency priorities.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain the Ashby House management team and employees.
  • Develop systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and the community.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Designate, in writing, a staff member to act as the Administrator when not on campus.
Fundraising & Communications:
  • Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and future program development.
  • Effectively pursue grants applicable to Ashby House programs.
  • Utilize all aspects of communications – from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
  • Cultivate excellent relationships with local media; provide oversight for Ashby House’s presence in the social media.
  • Reach out to the community to present Ashby House, its mission, and services, through public presentations and attending relevant business events, conferences, and gatherings.
Planning:
  • Maintain a vision and set strategy for current and future Ashby House programs.
  • Lead the management team and board in implementing the strategic plan, based on data driven analytics, projections, and financials.
Financial Performance and Viability:
  • Develop (with the Board of Directors) and implement the annual agency budget.
  • Provide fiscal management that anticipates operating within the budget, ensures maximum resource utilization and maintains a positive financial position.
  • Train and enforce compliance with internal controls policy.
Credentials and Personal Qualities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • 8 years senior management and human resources experience with 5 years in a field applicable to Ashby House.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, and program development.
  • Strong motivational and staff leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Impeccable work ethic with integrity.
  • Knowledge of Quick Books, Office Suite and Excel.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit tax laws.
  • Experience in general building maintenance and repair.
  • Completion of a Personality Inventory Test.
