Educational Programs

At the heart of all the programs that Ashby House is our Life Skills Curriculum, which is not only facilitated on campus, but at outreach programs at the Saline County Jail and Ellsworth Correctional facility. Our core curriculum is comprised of 6 core classes, including:

  • Values Clarification
  • Decision Making
  • Goal Setting
  • Communication
  • Anger Management
  • Stress Management

The Opportunity Knocks program was designed to develop and implement a workforce training program that promotes self-sufficiency among Salina’s homeless residents. When reviewing existing jobs training programs, Ashby House staff had 1 overall objective in mind – to reduce the gap between homeless residents in need of job training and those actually willing to, accepted to, and could afford to participate in a job training program.  Workshops offered include:
  • Addressing daily living skills standing in the way of employment
  • Mastering job applications
  • Developing professional resumes and cover letters
  • Overcoming interview stage fright
  • Job networking
  • Debt management and personal financial planning
  • Financial scams targeting the homeless
  • Typing proficiency and speed
  • Microsoft Office programs
  • Accounting software
  • Navigating the web
  • Grant writing
  • And MORE!
